The ChildCare2020 conference in Winnipeg from Nov 13-15 was a huge success!
ChildCare2020 brought together more than 600 Canadian and international child care delegates and we were thrilled with the opportunity to meet face to face. Speakers and participants included advocates, activists, academics, parents, early childhood educators, politicians, service providers, systems managers, economists and trade unionists. We were sorry that we had to close the registration but we were blown away by the enthusiasm and passion put forward by those who attended. Conference materials will be posted on the ChildCare2020 website and all updates and communications will be sent through the conference E-newsletter.
A common message was forming from day one and by the end everyone was saying it – early childhood education and child care is a public good and it is due time for a national child care program in Canada. We Will Win.
On the final day of the conference, Toronto city councilor and early childhood educator Janet Davis moved a motion to endorse the vision set out in the conference background paper Child care in Canada by 2020: A vision and a way forward (English and French). Councilor Davis’ motion was unanimously and enthusiastically approved by the conference delegates.
The Child Care Advocacy Association of Canada was a proud sponsor of this conference in partnership with the Childcare Resource and Research Unit and the Canadian Child Care Federation and of course, we couldn’t have made it possible without the conference organizers and the help and support from our partners.
Stay Tuned – the CCAAC and partners are working on a national campaign to make early childhood education and child care a vote-determining issue in the 2015 federal election.
