CUPE: Early childhood education & Nova Scotia’s Pre-Primary Program

In this position paper, Early childhood education & Nova Scotia’s Pre-Primary Program, the case is made that individuals with post-secondary qualifications in early childhood education and care are best-suited to be the educators in Nova Scotia’s new Pre-Primary program. Credentialed early childhood professionals are argued to have specialized knowledge and practicum training in early years pedagogy, child development and play-based learning– all of which are appropriate in the early years context. Discussion of lessons to be learned from other provinces is also included.
